Alumni and Recovery Support Services

Why Alumni Services Are Important?

Contribute to Long-Term Recovery Outcomes & Organizational Growth

Historically, alumni services have been viewed as an ancillary support function within residential treatment programs. Typically focused on sober events and fellowship, these services have been overlooked as a value-added resource for organization growth and increased patient care.  Over the last decade, a movement has been happening within the addiction treatment industry to reshape perceptions of alumni services as a professional line of service that contributes to long-term recovery outcomes and organizational growth.

Increase the Length of Remission and Reduced Relapses

Today, alumni services across the country have been proven to support clients in a more meaningful way by introducing them to recovery management techniques that help with increased remission rates and reduced relapses. Alumni are choosing to stay connected to those programs that influenced their lifestyle change.  Whether it’s post-treatment telephonic support, aftercare groups, social media engagement, or recovery coaching, treatment centers are encouraged to help alumni transition into life after in-patient giving them a safety net in early recovery that will contribute to long-term sobriety.

Financially, the cost-benefit ratio is substantial.

Alumni who are engaged with your program will keep you “top of mind,” function as brand ambassadors, and share their strength, hope, and experience with their sphere of influence.  This leads to an increase in alumni referrals without much cost invested. Historically, alumni cost per admission is much lower than other marketing channels.

My best advice to give a future organization in building an alumni program is to ask your alumni what they want, identify what the gaps are, and be the resource to fill those gaps.  Doing this will increase engagement, produce more referral prospects and contribute to greater success in long-term sobriety.
